A FUR-TASTIC Dog Show with superb entries kicked off the two day family friendly King Charles III Coronation Weekend on The Den this morning, Sunday, in Teignmouth.

Event organiser, Cllr Cate Williams, said: 'It just surpassed all expectations. The entries were great before today but the queue to enter on the day was huge so it was fantastic that so many people anted to take part with their wonderful dogs.'

One of the judges, Dawn Head, said: 'It was really hard work to judge them because there were some really lovely dogs.'

'We had rescue dogs and a beautiful Husky dog Stormzy and therapy dogs with a couple dressed as Elvis and Priscilla.'

There were many stalls and a classic, vintage and veteran car display on The Den too with some magnificent vehicles from yesteryear.

Authentic Caribbean Food was one of the many delicacies on offer at the King Charles III Coronation Weekend on The Den.

On the Sunday afternoon there were several musical sessions to entertain the many visitors and a craft session involving members of the local churches was expected to be a big highlight.Teignmouth Mayor, Cllr Iain Palmer, and his Mayoress, wife Jackie, said the first day on The Den had surpassed all expectations so far and they were looking forward to the rest of the two day event.There will also be food and concessions available from Barney’s Hog Roast, The Salty Badger and their amazing sourdough sandwiches, Caribbean flavours from Daddy D’s, coffee and hot drinks from Crew and even a sweet shop... all this in addition to the wonderful array of foods and drinks which can also be purchased from local businesses..

There will be free face painting for children and adults over the two days as well.

‘This is a community event, we want everyone to have a great weekend celebrating the coronation of King Charles III,’ says Cllr Williams.

‘Even if you are not a Royalist, it is also an opportunity to come together with friends and family, to enjoy the events on The Den and especially for The Big Help Out, raising awareness and funds for our amazing charities and volunteer services.

‘Who knows, with all the stalls taking part, hopefully there may be something to help our community become much more involved with each other.’

The DoomRiders will be undertaking the Royal Ride on Monday along with music, stalls, food and the Royal Art and Fancy Dress competitions!

Jackie O’Brien, manager at the Alice Cross Centre, and support worker Sue Yates, were on hand to provide refreshments and information about the tremendous work carried out at the centre at their stall and cafe during the two day event on TheDen.

Jackie said the day before 30 people had attended the Teignmouth community centre to watch the Coronation on a big screen and treated a food including Coronation Quiche and prosecco.'

‘It was a lovely day and everyone got into the spirit of the Coronation,' she added.

Mayor Palmer said: ‘There will be something for the whole family to take part in this event.

‘There’s entertainment on both days. Bouncy castles. Check out the Teignmouth town council webpage/Facebook for the full programme.

‘The Town is looking great with all the flags and bunting. Many of the businesses have entered the best dress Coronation window display We’ve really tried to keep everyone in mind.

‘This is a very important event as it’s been over 70 years since the last Coronation was held, so for the most of us this will be the first king crowned in our lifetime.

‘This has been a very special year for me as Mayor so to be able to celebrate this Coronation at the end of my term, I’m honoured.’
