TRIBUTES have been paid to a Ukrainian teenager who died in Dawlish by authorities who helped her come to Devon.

The 14-year-old Ukrainian national was found unconscious on the beach at Dawlish at the weekend and was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where she died later.

Devon County Council and Teignbridge District Council were involved in administering the government’s Home for Ukraine scheme which was launched in the wake of the Russian invasion.

A spokesman for Devon County Council said it was working with the district councils to deliver the scheme.

They said: ‘Our thoughts and condolences are with the young person’s family at this sad time.’

A spokesman for Teignbridge District Council said: ‘Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with the family of the young girl, whom they have lost in this tragedy.

‘Our priority is to protect the identity of the family in accordance with their wishes, and to work with the police and other agencies while they carry out their investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

‘We would urge anyone who has any information on this to contact the police.’
