AS many as 40 of the county’s bellringers were out in force over the Coronation weekend, racing here, there and everywhere to ensure as many of Teignbridge’s church bells were rung in celebration of His Majesty.
The ringers managed to reach no fewer than 13 different bell towers, from Dean Prior, to Moretonhampstead, via Highweek and many other churches in between.
Geoff Pring, one of the many bellringers, described it as a ‘truly momentous day’ and ‘a proud one for bellringers across the whole county who helped our communities celebrate’.
The day was organised by Robert and Katie Law, ringers at Bovey Tracey and other churches in the area.
They were instrumental in encouraging people to take up bell ringing this year, as part of the ‘Ring for the King’ initiative.
