A NEWTON Abbot pub is now the proud recipient of the Ballamy Tankard
The Dartmouth Inn was judged top in the recent Court Leet and Court Baron of The Manorial Borough of Newton Abbot annual ale tasting ceremony.
Members of the Court were out and about in Newton Abbot at the end of last month presenting certificates for best ale and cider and excellent hospitality to five public houses within the borough - plus the presentation of the Ballamy Tankard.
‘The tankard is in memory of Ken Ballamy, who was the first Ale Taster back in 1991 when The Courts were re-introduced by his Lordship Keith Stokes-Smith,‘ said Portreeve Alan Vizor.
‘Ken was also the monk in the St Leonard’s Tower for our annual Inspection of the Stocks Ceremony, which are still held in the tower for public display.’
The other lucky recipients of certificates from the Court were The Cider Bar, Orsino Lounge, The White Hart and The Abbot.
