RACING fans are set to rejoice ahead of the much-anticipated return of crowds of up to 4,000 spectators at Newton Abbot Racecourse on Saturday, August 21.
For the first time since 2019, the racecourse will be able to welcome an increased crowd of 4,000 spectators following several fixtures with a limited crowd of just 500 as part of the phased return of spectators to horseracing fixtures in the UK. Gates open at 12.55pm on the Saturday ahead of the first of seven races at 2.55pm.
Due to the presence of the NHS testing centre on-site, the Course Enclosure will be closed for the remainder of the season. However, all racegoers will be able to enjoy the day’s racing from the luxury of the Paddock Enclosure with a one-priced entry fee of £18.50.
Ever mindful of the financial crunch facing families this summer holidays, the racecourse is continuing with its free entry policy for children which allows all under 18s to enjoy a day at the races free of charge when accompanied by an adult.
Talking ahead of the next fixture, Patrick Masterson, Managing Director at Newton Abbot Racecourse said: ‘We are very much looking forward to being able to welcome back an increased crowd to Newton Abbot Racecourse on August 21.’
‘Even before the Pandemic stuck, we had already lost the last three fixtures of our 2019 season and so we are almost approaching two years since our last full crowd attendance.
‘Our August fixtures are always some of the most popular dates in our racing calendar, so we strongly recommend that people book their tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.’
An evening fixture will also be running on Tuesday, August 31. Racegoers then have five more chances to enjoy a day at the races ahead of the Season Finale on Thursday, October 21.
