A BUILDING made of wood and hemp was destroyed in a late night blaze in Drewsteignton yesterday.

Fire control received a number of calls to reports of a fire in Netherton Hill at 10.15pm.

Crews from Moretonhampstead, Chagford, Okehampton, North Tawton, and Castle Danes Exeter along with an Operational Assurance officer from Exeter and the Command Unit from Honiton rushed to the scene.

The building, 14m by 7m, was well alight and firefighters used breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet, a fire hydrant and small tools to extingush the fire.

Some 90 per cent of the ground floor and 80 per cent of the first floor was severely damaged by fire and smoke.

A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hotspots and any potential fire spread.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
