A GAS leak victim has praised emergency services from Ashburton and Buckfastleigh who cared for her during her late night ordeal.
June Davies, 84, had nothing but kind words for firefighters and paramedics who responded to a 999 shout at her Sparkwell Lane home in Staverton just before 11pm yesterday.
‘They were absolutely marvellous,’ said a grateful June who was checked over in the back of an ambulance after her faulty Aga triggered a carbon monoxide alarm.
She had just finished watching TV for the night when she went to check the kitchen before going to bed.
The alarm suddenly burst into life and switched-on June immediately rang the emergency services.
‘They arrived here so quickly. It was lovely,’ June said after her drama.
She added that the problematic Aga was being fixed by specialists today.
‘All the world and his wife are coming here to do it,’ she revealed.
Fire crews from Buckfastleigh and Ashburton dealt with the incident after the alarm was raised at 10.48pm.
A further crew, equipped with a gas detection monitor, was also called to the scene.
A spokesman confirmed the source of the leak was a gas range stove.
Firefighters isolated the appliance’s gas supply and left Mrs Davies, the wife of the late Dr Howell Davies, in the company of the paramedics and a gas engineer.
Mrs Howell had her blood pressure checked by paramedics who were happy that she did not need to go to hospital.
