Firefighters from Dawlish and Torquay assisted a pair of walkers who had become stuck fast in mud while out walking earlier today (Sunday, February 28).
Along with a 4x4 vehicle and a Special Rescue Officer the crews were mobilised to Mamhead just before 1pm where the unfortunate duo, who initially called the fire service, were stuck up to their knees on a public footpath through farmland.
On arriving at the scene crews found that both walkers had sunk up to their waists - but were otherwise n good health.
A spokeman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Four firefighters donned wading suits and used mud mats and a mud lance to assist with releasing the walkers.
‘The mud lance was used to blow compressed air in to the mud and as close to the walkers feet and legs as possible to create an air pocket and assist with sliding their limbs out.’
Once released they were slid across the mud mats to a place of safety and checked over by the firecrews.
