HEAVY overnight rain and a rising river level lead to a dozen cows becoming cut off from the rest of their herd this morning (Tues April 10th).
One fire appliance from Ottery St Mary and the specialist Water Rescue Unit from Exmouth attended the scene at Cadhay Bridge and with assistance from the farmer were able to ensure all the stranded cows were coaxed to safety.
The River Otter operation near Ottery St Mary was caught on camera by Mid-Devon Advertiser photographer Steve Pope on his way into work this morning.
Weather forecasters are predicting a rush of similar deluges across the south this week.
