NEWTON Abbot Police have shown their support for International Women’s Day by posting a picture of their female staff.

On their Facebook page they say: ‘We are proud to be supporting International Women’s Day today to celebrate all the fantastic women who work across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to help keep our communities safe.

‘Here are some of our fantastic female officers and staff who work here in Newton Abbot.’

‘International Women’s Day celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.

‘Women working in the police have come a long way since 1883 when they were first employed by the Met to visit women convicts.

Among the comments below them are ’Fabulous, thank you and well done ladies!’
