The South Devon Highway was closed for around six hours this morning (Saturday) following a collision between a van and a pedestrian.

Following the incident, which happened at around 4am, the road was closed to south-bound traffic between Penn Inn and Kerswell Gardens.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said "The pedestrian has been taken to Derriford Hospital with very serious injuries. The driver of the van suffered no injuries."

The road was re-opened just after ten o'clock this morning following completion of accident investigators work.
