A MAN suffered serious head injuries when his car collided with another outside Newton Abbot earlier today.

He was taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital for treatment as was an elderly woman who escaped with minor injuries.

The accident, involving a Honda Jazz and a Vauxhall Astra, happened just after 7.30am near the turn-off to Coffinswell on the St Marychurch Road at Haccombe Cross.

Road closures were put in place by police at Ridge Road and at Haccombe Cross.

All three emergency services attended the accident.
