A YOUNG dad is fighting for his life after a hit and run accident in Kingsteignton over the weekend.

Jason Bunce, 25, and from Kingsteignton, is being treated at the intensive care unit in Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital after being struck by a small black or silver car in Gestridge Road, off Exeter Road, at about 12.10am on Saturday.

Police and Jason’s family have issued an appeal for the driver or witnesses to come forward.

The mystery motorist was driving the vehicle towards Fore Street at the time of the accident.

It did not stop at the scene, police confirmed.

A spokesman said: ‘If you know the identity of the driver, or where the car can be found, police are urging the public to get in touch as soon as possible.’

Jason’s 19-year-old partner, Ashleigh Ackerley, is the mother of the couple’s 10-weeks-old son, Noah.

She revealed Jason, a trawlerman working out of Teignmouth, was in an induced coma in Derriford.

He had been out with his friends in Kingsteignton on Friday night when the incident happened.

She said on Facebook that Jason had suffered a broken leg and since undergone brain surgery.

He had a 50-50 chance of pulling through, she believed.

She urged anyone with knowledge of the driver to contact police urgently.

In a direct appeal she said: ‘For his sake I would be very grateful if you did - or if you know anyone holding information about this or knows anything even the smallest detail, or if someone is acting differently from how they are usually. Please phone the police.’

Jason’s mother echoed her request for information.

She said: ‘Please if anyone has seen or heard anything come forward. Have a conscience and do the right thing.’

Paramedics attended the scene - later sealed off by police (pictured) - at 12.50am.

Anyone with information should ring police on 101, quoting log 53 of April 8.
