A WOODLAND heath fire caused the A382 Bovey Straights to be closed earlier today (Saturday, April 24) while fire crews dealt with a blaze adjacent to the road.
Five pumps from Ashburton, Newton Abbot and Bovey Tracey attended the scene shortly after 10.30am along with water bowsers from Torquay and Danes Castle stations plus the Incident Command Unit from Totnes.
Police closed the A382 between Heathfield and Bovey Tracey for safety and to allow crews to tackle the conflagration located between the carriageway and the Heathfield industrial estate.
A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘The fire involved approximately 500 square meters of woodland and industrial land.
‘Crews used five 45mm jets, five hose reel jets, one thermal image camera, one scotty pack, and compressed air foam. Hydrants were also used to supplement the supply of water.’
The origin of the fire is thought to be accidental.
