A COUPLE were rescued after their canoe capsized on the River Teign near Drewsteignton on Easter Sunday.
Fire crews from Chagford, Moretonhampstead and Exmouth joined other agencies in helping the pair after they were trapped in the water near Fingle Bridge.
Rescuers made their way on foot along the river bank where they found the duo had managed to scramble to the river’s edge.
A fire spokesman said the canoeists had not suffered any serious injuries.
‘They were escorted to a safe location,’ the spokesman added.
The drama kicked off just after 3pm when the initial 999 call was made to emergency services.
