A STUDENT who died in a rock climbing accident at Chudleigh Rocks has been described as a woman who ‘inspired many with her positive attitude to life’.

Josephine Docherty, 20, from Sheffield, died after falling 66 to 100ft and hitting two edges, an inquest has heard.

She had been leading the climb at Chudleigh Rocks with her boyfriend and friends while on holiday in Devon August 7 2020.

The coroner in Exeter concluded her death was accidental.

Coroner Alison Longhorn said Josephine was leading the climb when she suddenly fell and it was a ‘truly horrendous incident’ for her boyfriend who did everything to help her at the time

Ms Docherty’s cause of death was given as traumatic brain injuries.34

It is thought that her cam device, used to secure her in the event of a fall, dislodged.

A cam is a spring-loaded mountaineering protection device.

She died four days after the fall after being airlifted to hospital, and the coroner was told her organs were donated after her family was told she would have no meaningful recover
