FIREFIGHTERS from Buckfastleigh were one of three crews who assisted at a property fire near Ivybridge in the early hours of this morning (Sat March 3rd).
Along with appliances from Ivybridge and Modbury, they were mobilised following a call from occupants of a farm saying their kitchen was full of smoke and everyone had been able to evacuate the property just after midnight.
On arrival the first BA-equipped crews entered the property to investigate with hose reel jet and confirmed smoke was issuing, later confirming the source of the fire was coming from a wood burning stove, on the ground floor kitchen of the farmhouse.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “By 00:36hrs the fire was believed to be out but the property remained heavily smoke logged. A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the property of smoke and crews also isolated an oil tank supply as a precaution."
Other than the heavy smoke logging there was no further damage and once the appliances were isolated and area was made safe, duty of care was left with the occupants of the privately rented property.
