A FIRE crew from Bovey Tracey helped out as a Forage Harvester caught fire in a barn this afternoon (Tuesday).
One fire appliance from Hatherleigh, one from Holsworthy, one from Torrington and the Incident Support Unit from Bovey Tracey were sent to a report of a forage harvester on fire in a barn near Shebbear.
A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘On arrival crews confirmed that the forage harvester was well alight and that the farmer had managed to remove it from the barn.
‘However, the barn was also involved in fire. The Incident Commander requested another fire appliance to attend and so this was sent on from Bideford.
‘The forage harvester was 100 per cent damaged by fire and a range of farm buildings were 10 per cent damaged.
‘To deal with the incident crews used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel, one compressed air foam jet, two thermal image cameras, a triple extension ladder, two environmental packs and small tools.’
