A GROUP of German guests visited Newton Abbot at the weekend to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the town’s twinning group.
Mayor Richard Jenks welcomed burgermeister Steffen Buhler – his counterpart from Besigheim – to a special shindig at the town hall on Saturday.
Visitors from Besigheim, one of Newton Abbot’s twin towns, were also joined by town councillors and twinning association members for the celebrations.
Burgermeister Buhler exchanged gifts with Katell Hopkins from the twinning group before setting off on a day trip to Dartmouth.
The group spent Sunday, their last full day, exploring Dartmoor and attending a civic dinner at Dainton Golf Club.
Ms Hopkins, who is chairman of the group, said: ‘It was a wonderful weekend and all who attended the events enjoyed themselves. The weather was good and so was the company.’
A trip to Besigheim from Newton Abbot is being planned for September, when Besigheim hosts popular wine event Winzerfest.
