‘ABSOLUTELY awesome’ is how a Newton Abbot woman described her special birthday sky dive at Dunkeswell Airfield.

Angela Larkworthy recently celebrated her 80th birthday, and what better way to mark the occasion than by jumping out of a plane at 15,000ft? We can’t think of one!

‘It was unbelievable!’ Angela said.

‘It was strange, because when you actually jump from the plane, you don’t feel as though you are moving - it’s weird.

‘It was minus ten degrees when I jumped out of the plane!’ she added.

Initially booked in to jump at 7,000ft, Angela instead jumped at 15,000ft, which allowed for 60 seconds freefall followed by a six minute descent once the parachute unfurled.

‘You don’t feel though you’re dropping until you feel that tug and the chute opens,’ Angela said.

The sky dive was a present from husband Gary, and the latest high-octane activity that Angela has tried her hand at, but this one ‘topped the lot, it was awesome, absolutely awesome’ Angela said.

Family and friends awaited Angela as she landed, dubbed her fan club.

‘It was a big surprise for me!’ Angela said.

The oldest person to skydive at Dunkeswell was an 102-year-old Canadian woman.

‘We’ll see you in 22 years!” the staff said to me as we left’ Angela said with a smile.
