A PLANNING application to demolish several buildings at Bradley Lane has been submitted to planners.

The application, submitted to Teignbridge District Council (TDC) on September 12, is seeking approval for ‘the demolition of six buildings and associated structures within the Bradley Mill Site’.

The six buildings all fall within the perimeter of the recently fenced off area of the historic Newton Abbot site, as can be seen in the image below.

The six buildings planned for demolition
The planning application is seeking approval for the demolition of six buildings with the boundary marked in red (-)

It is hoped that demolition will begin on November 14 and be completed by the end of March 2025, the Mid-Devon Advertiser understands.

The mostly derelict site has been earmarked for housing, given it is a brownfield site and in a desirable, town centre location.

Several heritage-focused organisations have called for the existing buildings, chiefly the Vicary Mill building, which was the former home of Launa Windows, to be incorporated into any future development.

And while TDC did vote to demolish the site, council leader, Cllr Richard Keeling, said that it would likely not be a blanket demolition.

But this latest planning application, reference 24/01475/DEM, would suggest otherwise - it suggests, as it clearly states, that all six buildings are on the chopping block.
